New Park Road

One great benefactor to the village was Stephan Rowland who added the new shop frontage to Ivy Hall Farm and bought gas and water supplies to the village. It was he who later set up a company to develop the New Park Estate in the area of land bounded by Ewhurst Road and Horsham Road.

Cromwell Cottage
|
In 1657, Oliver Cromwell visited the village with his staff, and whilst he himself stayed at Knowle, some of his staff were billeted at the house known as Oliver House, and the fine old 15th century cottage adjoining known as Cromwell Cottage.
Towards the end of the 19th century David Mann arrived and set up his shop on part of the present site. After only a few years he was able to expand into the adjoining property, Cromwell Cottage and the impressive frontage that we can see today was added.
